A flexible approach can beat the vehicle delays

The global supply chain is still reeling from the effects of the pandemic (with a little added extra from Brexit here in the UK) and the vehicle industry is no exception. There are shortages of lease vans resulting in long waits for frustrated drivers.

A combination of factory closures and a shortage of semi-conductor chips is being blamed for the delays and demand for leased vehicles is on the up due to dramatic increases in purchase prices.

Couple this with the fact that many trades are seeing a vastly increased demand for work, and we have a perfect storm  for shortages to occur.

If you are waiting for a van with which to run your business, this will be doubly frustrating as having to wait longer to get your wheels could impact your income too.

Silver lining

If you’re willing to be flexible with your requirements, there are vehicles around and our team, with over 30 years’ experience, are dedicated to finding them for you.

You’ll get a dedicated account manager who’ll advise you on the pros and cons for different makes and models and the various specifications available to you.

Of course, being flexible about the brand of your lease vehicle is easy because it’s not a long-term commitment in the same way a purchase is. You don’t have to make a down-payment for a lease vehicle and you therefore get to see it before parting with any money. If it turns out to be completely off the mark for you, you still have some flexibility to change it.

Start planning

At OVL we’re happy that, with a willingness to consider anything, we’ll be able to find you something suitable for your needs. But we’d definitely advise starting to look earlier than you normally would to combat the shortages, especially if you’ve purchased a vehicle that has now been delayed.

For us to be as flexible as we’d like, we need to know your requirements as far in advance as possible along with where you’re willing to compromise.

We’ve been helping businesses and individuals lease vans for 30 years, so we know where to look to find you the best deal. Plus, most importantly when things are frustrated with delays, we’ll keep the conversation flowing. You’ll get a dedicated account manager who can also help chat through the pros and cons of different makes and models.

It’s why we get reviews like this one, from Nigel at Spectrum Electronics: “We’ve been doing business for 20 years and I am delighted to keep it that way.”

When is a van not a van?

When is a van not a van?

Don’t worry, it’s not a bad joke. It’s actually a serious question for some business owners.

If you need to switch between site and client visits, carrying out meetings as well as delivering your trade, you might struggle to know which vehicle to lease for your business.

Equally, you might need something that can put in the hard graft but not feel ready to join the UK’s 1.5 million plus van drivers.

Whatever your story, the answer to our title comes as another question for you: what about a pickup truck?

Often overlooked, they’re surprisingly flexible when it comes to looks and functionality and, perhaps more interestingly, they’re taxed in the same way as a commercial vehicle, making them a more cost-effective choice than battling on with the family car.

Plenty of options outside…

Despite their heavy-sounding name, pickups provide an excellent hybrid between family and working vehicle, with different cab and ‘bed’ configurations available.

For example, you can choose between two and four seats up front, and the bed can be left open or covered with a high canopy hardtop or a lower-level roller cover.

When you think about accessories for pickup trucks, you could be forgiven for remembering huge bull bars and lots of extra headlights. Depending on your age (no, we’re not telling you ours!) that might be because you remember when pickups – or ‘utes’ as the Aussies called them – were catapulted into our everyday lives through daily soap operas such as Neighbours and Home & Away.

And excellent progress on the inside too!

But, back to reality and the accessories, and style, of these trucks have come a long way. Now available with leather interiors, touchscreen navigation and smartphone interfaces, they provide everything the business owner needs when on the road. And you can still chuck a tool or several in the back.

They also drive more like a car than a truck, making for a more comfortable everyday ride than other commercial vans. They’re really easy to brand with sign writing (in some cases the canopies are available in different colours too) so are great for presenting a professional view of your business when you visit a site or a customer. No need to steal the family car on meeting days.

So, when you need a van, but don’t really want a van, go for the best of both worlds. Consider a pickup truck and we’ll guarantee a bull-bar free zone! Take a look here at our latest pick-up offers and as always just email sales@vans4lease.co.uk if our team can offer you any advice.
