The Ford Transit van has been one of the most widely sold vans in the UK for years, and it’s no surprise when you consider the range of models, the performance and the efficiency of the engines available.
As well as the ‘good old’ some say ‘proper’ Ford Transit, within the range are compacts – The Transit Courier, Transit Connect and the medium sized Transit Custom.
What do Ford say?
On its own website Ford describes the new Transit as bigger, better and stronger. A van that is “generous on loads economical on roads.”
The Ford Transit is universally well reviewed and it’s driving style, ‘like a car’ is certainly a draw. Ford says that “the Intelligent AWD system can determine how much grip, cornering balance and responsiveness is required in wet, dry or icy conditions and on varying terrain. The technology is able to send drive to the front or rear axle depending on requirements. And this ‘torque on demand’ system delivers exceptional handling and improved efficiency.”
An office on wheels is also a selling point for the Ford Transit. With so many businesses run from the van the in built mobile connectivity and handy features such as two 12V sockets, Aux in and USB connectivity, cupholders, space for a laptop or A4 files and optional underseat stowage trays the cabin design is well thought out for business needs. The Transit’s load area has been improved with side-wall angles benefitting from revisions to make them more upright and the roof raised slightly to maximise useful space.
With emissions on everyone’s minds, the Ford EcoBlue 2.0L TDCi diesel engines comply with the stringent Euro6 emissions standard, which specifies a 55% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions versus the Euro5 emissions standard. Safety is also covered with Ford applauding its “unique roll-rate sensor” that helps the Roll Stability Control system to keep the tyres grounded, specifically under conditions where there’s a high centre of gravity.
Reviews for the Ford Transit are rarely below 4 out of 5-stars with comments such as; “The Ford Transit is excellent to drive and superbly comfortable” and “Terrific ride and handling plus an efficient range of engines means the Ford Transit is still a front runner” being the norm.
